Todd Phillips, director of The Hangover and the upcoming sequel, The Hangover Part 2, has officially confirmed the biggest, juiciest, most exciting bit of gossip in regards to the set of The Hangover: He tried to Tase the cast for real.
Apparently, for the scene where Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis are shot with a Taser, Todd’s initial conception of the scene was to get true reaction shots from the actors, a la Jackass. According to Phillips, Bradley Cooper was on board, but Ed and Zach were strongly opposed.
Clearly the extra bit of realism wasn’t necessary in the end, as they are all three great actors, and pulled it off anyway. Todd revealed this little fun fact on Conan Tuesday night, promoting and discussing the upcoming film.
The Hangover Part 2 opens May 26, and having made peace in advance with the thinly stretched believability of the same three guys blacking out again, and losing a travel companion again, I am definitely excited to see if this film lives up to the first. The first one is currently on a two disc special edition DVD, and you should probably go rent/buy/netflix it immediately.
