Warner Bros has just closed a high six-figure deal to acquire the upcoming Howard Blum book Dark Invasion and will develop it as a star vehicle for Oscar-nominated Silver Linings Playbook‘s Bradley Cooper. Cooper and his 22nd & Indiana banner will produce with John Lesher and his Le Grisbi banner. The nonfiction book Dark Invasion will be published by Crown/Random on 9/11/13. The date is significant, as the book is about what is considered the first attacks on U.S. soil since its formative years.

The book is a true spy thriller set in 1915 when Germany, with war raging in Europe and the U.S. still neutral, decides to send their Secret Service to America to wage a covert war to keep this country from helping the Allies. The Kaiser’s spies bomb factories, sabotage ships, shoot JP Morgan Jr (a financier of the Allies), bomb the U.S. Capitol Building, and set-up an anthrax lab six miles from the White House. Cooper is attached to play NYPD Capt Tom Tunney, who’s tasked with establishing the team that will bring these German spies to justice. CIA considers Tunney to be its first head of homeland security, according to the book.

Deal was brokered by CAA and Janklow & Nesbit. CAA also reps Cooper. Blum’s last book, The Floor Of Heaven is at Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment, and has a script by Scott Silver.

Though they are both conveniently single right in time for award season, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are not dating, they both insist. The Silver Linings Playbook stars were asked about their rumored romance on the red carpet of the 2013 Golden Globes Sunday, Jan. 13 by Entertainment Tonight.

“Oh my God. That’s very funny,” Cooper said when asked if he was dating Lawrence. “No, my God. No.” “We’ve done two movies together,” he added, of their upcoming film Serena. “If it didn’t happen by now, it’s not going to happen.”

When Nancy O’Dell pushed for more, the actor, 38, added, “No, no, no, no, no. Not even close. First of all, I could be her father. No, I’m kidding. But no, not even close.”

Lawrence, 22, split from boyfriend Nicholas Hoult last week after two years of dating. Cooper broke up with actress Zoe Saldana for a second time just before the holidays. The two initially split in March 2012 after three months of dating, but then rekindled their romance later that fall.

“I love her to death,” Cooper said of Lawrence. “She’s amazing, but no.”

I debated whether or not I should post this as I pride myself on keeping the site rumor-free, but I figured since People was reporting it, then the story is legit. As said in the article, when reached, Bradley’s rep had no comment.

A year after they were first linked together, it looks like it could be the end of the road for Bradley Cooper and Zoë Saldana.

The on-again off-again actors, who publicly celebrated his film Silver Linings Playbook together in Los Angeles last month, spent New Year’s apart, reports the New York Post.

While Cooper was in Europe, Saldana rang in 2013 with friends and family in Miami.

After a private dinner at Catch, where her group dined on crispy shrimp, Cantonese Lobster and assorted sushi rolls, they headed to the James Royal Palm hotel pool area for champagne and dancing.

“She was hanging out with Miami Heat stars Dwyane Wade and his girlfriend Gabrielle Union, and Chris Bosh with wife Adrienne Bosh,” a source at the hotel tells PEOPLE. “She looked happy and was dancing quite a bit. She was smiling all the time.”

The Avatar actress, 34, split from her boyfriend of 11 years, Keith Britton, in November 2011.

Cooper, who was PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive that same year, has been getting lots of awards buzz for Silver Linings Playbook. The actor, who turns 38 on Saturday, is nominated for Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for the role.

When reached, his rep had no comment.

Thanks to the success of his 2010 Oscar-magnet The Fighter, David O. Russell has been able to parlay that acclaim and interest to new projects, including Silver Linings Playbook, a Weinstein Co. feature about bipolar disorder starring Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence, which premiered this past Saturday at Toronto (read Matt’s positive review here).

Russell is also looking towards doing an upcoming film about the Abscam corruption scandal, a currently untitled piece (previously referred to as American Bullshit), that will be another collaboration with Cooper, as well as Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. Now word comes that Cooper may link up again with Russell for a property he acquired called American Sniper. Hit the jump for more on these projects as well as this new found creative partnership (and where the zombies come in).

Russell recently sat down with THR to talk about the Silver Linings Playbook, and how the deal with Mark Wahlberg fell through at the last minute, leading to Bradley Cooper taking his place:

“We’d had a bunch of meetings over the years — I met him at a party and met him at Bob De Niro’s house once — and we would say we wanted to work together. We were talking about doing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and The Bends, a project I wrote, a kind of cousin to Vertigo that’s still around.”

Russell noted that he and Cooper have discussed doing American Sniper together, but no solid commitment has been made. As for what draws Russell to Cooper as an actor, one might not expect Wedding Crashers to be invoked, but indeed …

“I knew he had this anger and this edge from the characters he played around Wedding Crashers; he had a sort of intensity and broodingness that was palpable. You could feel that in him. And we talked about how that had been something he had been through and had since moved beyond in many ways — he now is a very sincere, open and vulnerable person — and I thought that was an interesting combination.”

Russell goes on to describe him as, “like an athlete who wants to burst out of the blocks and wants to stretch in all these new ways,” and said that he and De Niro “took a shine to one another.” Looks like this could all be the beginning of a beautiful friendship …

We have something to tell you about Clint Eastwood—and no, it has nothing to do with an empty chair.

But it’s not exactly good news if you were excited about reports that the Hollywood legend is going to direct Beyoncé and Bradley Cooper in a remake of A Star Is Born.

“Just a rumor,” Cooper told us last night at the premiere of his new drama, The Words, at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Asked if he’d be interested in doing it, Cooper, 37, chose his words carefully, only saying, “I mean, Clint Eastwood is one of the best directors alive.”

But maybe we don’t need another Star Is Born. “There are like three versions already,” Cooper said.

That’s true. The first was in 1937 followed by a version starring Judy Garland in 1954. The third costarred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

While we ranked Streisand’s version as the best, Cooper wasn’t so sure.

“Even better than Judy Garland?” he asked.

Now, back to The Words, which stars Cooper as a writer who finds a lost draft of a novel and publishes it as his own. Zoe Saldana costars his wife with Jeremy Irons playing the book’s actual writer. Rounding out the cast are Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde and Ben Barnes.

Cooper grew up with the film’s codirectors and cowriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal in the Philadelphia suburbs.

“I’ve known them since I was like 10 years old,” Cooper said. “Brian used to come and play at my house.”

It really did turn into a hometown reunion. Cooper beamed, “My mom was there for most of the time when we were shooting.”

Four days into 2012 and we already have a fairly huge rumor on our hands, this time dealing with the city of Metropolis and a certain heretofore unmentioned bald evil genius.

Cosmic Book News reports a massive rumor that none other than Bradley Cooper is set for a cameo appearance as Lex Luthor in “Man of Steel,” director Zack Snyder’s big-screen reboot of the Superman mythos. Warner Bros. has not responded to our request for comment as of press time.

Surprisingly little has been mentioned about possible Luthor sightings in 2013’s Superman flick, though it’s hard to imagine the Kryptonian hero’s number one nemesis sitting out of the proceedings entirely. A cameo certainly seems plausible — perhaps as a post-credits scene, or even a brief appearance ala Hawkeye’s short but sweet scene in Marvel’s “Thor” last summer. Still, nothing’s been confirmed in that regard, especially in the casting department… so any talk of Cooper playing Lex is, for now at least, wishful thinking at best.

But man, am I wishfully thinking! It’s easy to imagine older, balder, more traditionally imposing actors inhabiting the LexCorp leader’s dapper suit, but I think Cooper would be an inspired choice. The guy can play skeevy, smarmy, charming, cool and calculated all in one performance, better than many other young actors in Hollywood. And that’s another key word to emphasize — young. Hiring an actor like Cooper puts Clark and Luthor on more even footing, keeping them in a relatively similar age range, but not so close in age that you can imagine the two guys being old high school buddies or something. (No disrespect intended, “Smallville” fans.)

If nothing else, it would be a different approach. Cooper is definitely not the first person I’d think of when imagining actors to play Lex Luthor — but then again, Heath Ledger also came completely out of left field when he was tapped to play Joker, and we all know how that turned out. Cooper as Lex could be a very interesting fit. And hey, at the very least, it’d be better casting than Cooper as The Crow, right?

I’m not too sure if this is legit or if it is just a rumor, but if it is true, they are definitely a cute couple!

Now here’s someone who does not prefer Ryan Gosling to Bradley Cooper.

The reigning Sexiest Man Alive and Zoe Saldana are dating and they’re extremely happy about it, sources exclusively tell E! News. And we hear that the pair are just now starting to tell family and friends that they’re an item.

What? You didn’t expect either one of them to remain on the market for long, did you?

A rep for Saldana, who recently filmed The Words with—and got to practice kissing—Cooper, denied that the costars were anything more than friends a month ago, after their appearance together at a Manhattan nightclub prompted romantic speculation.

But as recently as last week, a source tells E! News, they were telling friends that they had plans to go skiing in the Rockies together over the holidays.

“They are totally dating,” the source says.

Reps for both stars did not immediately return requests for comment.

Saldana and her boyfriend of nearly 11 years, Keith Britton, called off their engagement and revealed that they had broken up in early November.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook Page is reporting that an inside source has tipped them off on five actors that are up for a part in a Marvel Studios movie. The two other actors on the list are Eddie Redmayne and Joel Kinnaman.

I’m gonna speculate on that rumor and assume that the part they are most likely up for would be Hank Pym, or better known to most as Ant-Man. We know that Edgar Wright has just handed in the final script for the movie, and all these actors share the same fair hair qualities. Can’t be Daredevil, because the insider said it was Marvel and not FOX doing the considering. It most likely isn’t for Dr. Strange, because once again all five don’t share a resemblance to Sorcerer Supreme.

Bradley Cooper who just exited The Crow and was the runner-up to Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern certainly has interest in making a CBM. Good solid actor, but with Paradise Lost beginning filming soon, will he have enough time to do another big movie?

Joel Edgerton is an interesting name. Currently early word on his new movie with Tom Hardy Warrior is very good. Early buzz is saying this might be a breakout performance for him.

Lee Pace who is best known as the star of the canceled but wonderful, Pushing Daisies has the look of Pym in my opinion and the acting chops to pull off any number of roles.

The other two actors I’m not that familiar with and I’d assume they are on the bottom rung. Eddie Redmayne is my least favorite on the list, his performance as Matt Damon’s son in The Good Shepherd was jarringly bad.

While Joel Kinnaman was in AMC’s tv show, The Killing. He should be familiar to many Marvel fans, because he was also on the short list for Thor.

Back in December, a report came out saying that Bradley Cooper was in talks to star in The Silver Linings Playbook, a film that director David O. Russell had expressed interest in. At the time, however, Russell was also attached to direct the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and it seemed as though the videogame adaptation was his first priority. Then the news came that Russell was off of Uncharted and was instead focusing his time towards Playbook, quickly signing Mark Wahlberg to star. Now it seems that Wahlberg is unable to do the film, so Cooper is back in the game.

Deadline has learned that Bradley Cooper has reentered talks to star in The Silver Linings Playbook. An adaptation of the novel by Matthew Quick, the Hangover star would play Pat Peoples, a former teacher who has been locked in a mental asylum for four years. Upon his release, he is sent to live with his mother and tries to reconnect with his ex-wife, but has his life complicated by his next door neighbor (Jennifer Lawrence), who has plenty of problems of her own. The article also brings back news that Russell has approached Robert De Niro about a part in the film (it says he is now in talks), though it doesn’t say what role the actor would play. De Niro was previously cast in Uncharted before Russell left the project and his script was replaced.

As for why Wahlberg was forced to leave the project, word is that Lawrence’s Hunger Games shooting schedule pushed back the start date for The Silver Linings Playbook, which caused a conflict. Sources tell the site that Wahlberg will be using the time to make Broken City with director Allen Hughes instead. In the film, Wahlberg will play a cop-turned-PI who begins working on an investigation of the city’s mayor. According to Deadline, Russell Crowe has been offered the antagonist role in the film, though there’s no word if he’s accepted.

As much as I like the sound of this project, I do wonder if the lack of Wahlberg will affect Russell’s desire to make the movie. The director has been rather flaky as of late – before leaving Uncharted he also bailed on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – and obviously likes working with Wahlberg a lot. That said, he wouldn’t have signed Lawrence if he wasn’t ready for the scheduling shift, so perhaps he’s here to stay.

Bradley Cooper is in San Diego drumming up support and buzz for the recently announced “Paradise Lost” adaptation he’s going to do with director Alex Proyas (“Dark City”). But while talking to press, he might have dropped a serious hint at the direction of the third “Hangover” (should that sequel actually happen).

Cooper was questioned by EW about Zach Galifianakis’ comments that the next “Hangover” might involve Cooper, Justin Bartha and Ed Helms breaking the deranged Alan out of a mental institute.

“You know what? That might be right,” Cooper said.

When pressed on the comment – because many thought Galifianakis tossed it out there just to throw nagging journalists down a different road – Cooper hedged by saying, “I mean, I have no idea. But that sounds good!”

And you know what? It does sound good. It would be a separation from the wake-up-hungover formula that powered Todd Phillips’ first two comedies to box office superstardom. And given the success of “The Hangover Part II,” you know a third one will happen. I’m thrilled Phillips wants to go down a new avenue, and if Cooper’s right, that idea could work very well.
